The Triangle as the major construction unit of impressions
But how does Consciousness perceive the visual stimulus as triangular? To start with, Consciousness cannot assume a summary image. It cannot perceive a landscape, let’s say, as a landscape from the beginning. It identifies a central piece and “builds” the rest of the image around it. If, for example, the viewer is looking through a window the image is already framed and she/he is likely to focus in the center. Or she/he could focus on an area that is better lit or where the colours are stronger. The fact is that the viewer focuses on some area of the overall image. So when the Consciousness locates -and probably “locks”- the part on which it will focus, it moves the eyes to define the limits of this part. The simplest localization/delimitation of this space is done with three movements of the eyes: the simplest space that Consciousness can perceive is triangular.
