THE SUBLIMITY OF MOUNT OLYMPUS
The idea of the “Sublime” as an aesthetic competitor of the idea of the “Beautiful”, drew its inspiration from the awe and excitement caused at the sight of the high mountains.
CONCEPT
The “Sublime” outruns the “Beautiful” in that it is based in the senses and personal experience, promoting this way the subjectivity over an objective system of beauty.
The idea here was to help the viewer feel like a romantic flâneur who stands surprised in front of the legendary Olympus: his impression of the mounntain is a mix of awe and attraction along with the romantic belief that this is the home of the ancient gods. Blue, black, white, a hint of red are the colours here, whereas the brushstrokes move diagonally to the RH bottom side, to offer an haptic sense of rough rocky slopes.
The snow, rendered with soft brushstrokes, sort of, counterbalances the wildness of the brack rocks.
The viewer may feel weak at this sight but she/he may also feel the strong bond with Nature.
