ROCKING AND ROLLING WITH JIM
This is, for me, the spirit of rock &roll: it is cool, colourful, folkish, rhythmic and …kitsch (expressed mainly by the red socks, the “stylish’ shoes and the tartan trowsers) ! and also, open to all, forever young, creative, imaginary, timeless. Actually, the rhythm of r&r is expressed by this seemingly imbalanced multi-colourism .
This oil painting is among the series of palimpsests: it is painted on a canvas previously painted with some geometric patterns, from my period of geometric abstraction some five years ago.
The new paints are thin, almost transparent, so the underlying forms intermix with the new image creating a quite imaginary background for the sitting rock ‘n roller (who by the way is Jimmy Page).
